The Pocket Vol.5
The Pocket is a curated collection of bits and bobs that we have been sharing around the Shores office recently. There is some stuff that has inspired us, enlightened us, blown our minds or just simply made us chuckle and we wanted to share them with you.
If you find any interesting things that you think would be worthy of a mention then let us know by emailing us at firstname.lastname@example.org
OK Go Do It Again!
The band OK Go are probably more famous for their incredible high-concept music videos than their music itself, and if you haven’t seen any of their videos then you are in for a real
Treat. With their latest video for their song The One Moment the guys have excelled themselves by shooting a masterpiece of a video in just 4 seconds that when slowed right down lasts the full four minutes of the song. You can’t get the concept until you actually see it for yourself and also watch the documentary of how they achieved this incredible feat.
Life In Miniature
The image above might look like a normal photograph from the 1950’s but it’s actually a miniature scene created by Michael Paul Smith, combining miniature models with real life backgrounds and using perspective to bring the two aspects together. Everything in Smith’s work is made by hand and is part of his work creating Elgin Park, an imaginary town. A new book, Elgin Park, is out now and there is this fascinating documentary below on how Smith creates his masterpieces.
Check out his Flickr account here.
The fascinating documentary is available to watch here too:
I Want To Ride My Bicycle
9 friends, 2 weeks and 1 epic mountain bike ride. Vancouver Island is a ‘must do’ for every mountain biker in the world, and so when nine friends set off to conquer some of the best trails in Washington and British Columbia it was always going to be absolute mayhem, and this film shows you why.
Seeing Is Not Believing
The results for Best Illusion Of The Year are in and they are appropriately mindboggling. Run since 2005 the competition receives entries from scientists, artists, neurologists and anyone who wants to enter. The premise is to blow your mind and the competition is surprisingly tough. Just watching the videos in the link below will have you holding your head and wandering around cross eyed for a while.
A Love Letter To The 1980’s
MALL 84 is a great little short, tagged as a love letter to the 80’s, it crams in so much nostalgia it almost hits you like a physical pain. Created by Gervais Merryweather with music by Mitch Murder, this short film will have you wishing you were an 80’s child or wishing you were re-visiting your younger self from back in the day.
Best App Of The Year
There have been loads of great apps brought out this year but here at Shores HQ the one that we have loved the most is Photoscan. It’s a genius way of scanning in your old photos using your phone and the results are incredible, we are still not sure quite how it does what it does. It’s FREE too and so there’s nothing not to like about it. Dig out and dust off your old photo albums and get scanning!
